Training over August

Hi everyone,

Branko our coach is out of the country for the next four weeks, so there will be no more training on Tuesdays or Wednesdays until the end of August. However, Saturday training will be carrying on as normal, 1-3pm Bloomsbury Fitness studio. Tuesday sessions will resume on Tuesday 30 August, and Wednesday session shortly afterwards.

If you are in London and fancy some exercise to counteract any summer laziness, come along on Saturday. For those who can’t wait till then there will be an unofficial Judo gym session on Tuesday- keep checking the Facebook group.

London Universities Senior Open

Building on the success of last year’s London Universities Senior Open Championships 2011 at Brunel University, which attracted almost 150 Judokas from across 25 Universities, I am pleased to announce that this year’s event is going to be held on Saturday 26th November, with the venue TBC, so please place the date in your diaries as it is one not to be missed!

This year’s competition will be the same format as last year’s; a 3 star points scoring event, from Novice to 1St Kyu and above, the London Universities and Colleges Senior Open Championships encourages all levels of Judoka to take-part in one of the most enjoyable and atmospheric competitions on the annual University Judo calendar. This time we hope to attract in excess of 225 Judokas across a minimum of 3 mat areas, with the event now encouraging students from Further Education to take-part, so
please do organise yourselves and your teams so to avoid disappointment.

Entry costs will be charged at £12.50 per person before October 31st and £15 thereafter, so there is an incentive to get the early bird option, with the online entry portal due to go-live later this summer.

UPJC Back to Uni Training Camp

The camp will cost just £20 (or less if in a group of 15 or more) per person for the following:

- 2 nights accommodation

- Meal on the saturday evening

- Free entry to the UPSU bar for the social

- 2 days of quality judo

We still have a few things to finalise, such as the Saturday meal and the amount of parking available. But here is what we know for sure:

- Coaches will include:

Craig Ewers(4th Dan, Commonwealth Games Champion and Welsh National Coach)

Sandra Klinger(3rd Dan, BJA Technical Officer)

- Sessions will cater for everyone, from freshers just starting judo to experienced Dan Grades.

- The social is sponsored by UPSU and is gonna be huge!!
